Uniswap launches the UNI governance token via retroactive airdrop

On September 16, 2020, Uniswap dropped at least 400 UNI on every wallet that had touched the protocol before September 1, instantly handing roughly $1,200 (and a governance vote) to over 250,000 addresses. The move launched community governance for the largest DEX and, more durably, established the retroactive airdrop as the industry's default way to reward early users and farm goodwill.
