On September 26, 2020, attackers drained roughly $280M in BTC, ETH, ERC-20s, XRP and other assets from KuCoin's hot wallets after the private keys leaked. The breach was later pinned on North Korea's Lazarus Group, though KuCoin clawed back an improbable ~84% of the funds through on-chain tracing, blacklisting, and token issuers obligingly redeploying contracts to strand the thief's holdings.
