Wisconsin pension fund becomes first US state pension to hold spot Bitcoin ETFs

A 13F filing for Q1 2024 revealed that the State of Wisconsin Investment Board held over $162 million in spot Bitcoin ETFs, roughly $99 million in BlackRock's IBIT and $63 million in Grayscale's GBTC, making the $160B+ fund the first US state pension to disclose such a position. It was held up as proof that the newly launched ETFs had pried open the most conservative institutional wallets, though Wisconsin would quietly dump the entire stake a year later in Q1 2025.
