On August 9, 2023, Coinbase opened Base, an OP Stack rollup built on Ethereum, to the general public, making a Nasdaq-listed exchange the operator of its own Layer 2. The launch was wrapped in an "Onchain Summer" festival featuring Coca-Cola and Atari, and Base went on to become one of the larger Ethereum L2s by activity.
