On February 8, 2021, CME Group listed cash-settled Ether futures, extending its regulated crypto derivatives lineup beyond Bitcoin to the second-largest cryptocurrency. The contracts settled against the CME CF Ether-Dollar Reference Rate, giving institutions a US-regulated way to take ETH exposure and quietly laying groundwork for the eventual Ether ETF arguments.
