On March 11, 2021, Christie's hammered down a JPEG collage by Mike Winkelmann (Beeple) for $69.3 million paid in Ether, the first purely digital NFT auctioned by a major house. It briefly made Beeple the third most expensive living artist, though it later emerged the buyer and seller both had stakes in related crypto tokens they were keen to promote.

Beeple's "Everydays: The First 5000 Days" — a grid collage of 5,000 individual digital artworks created one per day over more than thirteen years.
